Amer Fort is located 11 km from Jaipur, though its actual name was Amber Fort but it is pronounced as Amer Fort . It stands as the testimony to the glory of the ruling Kachhawa clan, this was the capital of the princely state before it was shifted to Jaipur in 1727.

Rajasthan Amer Fort is nestled amidst the picturesque locales set atop rugged hills, it towers majestically over the surrounding landscape. This fort is connected by a winding way which can be reached on an elephant’s back, much to the attraction of the tourists.

Fort of Amer in Rajasthan presents a perfect blend of Hindu and Mughal architecture and its construction was begun by Raja Man Singh I in 1952 and was finally completed by Sawai Jai Singh I.

You will find that the fort is built in red sand stone and white marble, and there are delicate work by the artists , whose aesthetics appeals to the one who beholds it.

In the interiors of theFort of Amer there are beautiful expressive paintings ,with a touch of life lent to them by carvings and precious stones and mirror settings.

In front of the fort you have the picturesque Maota Lake while the heavily fortified walls spell awe.

It is believed that the fort was originally a small one that was won by the Rajputs from the Meena tribes but was later expanded and renovated to its majestic state now.

The Rajasthan Amer Fort is divided in four sections and you can reach them either by climbing the imposing stairs or much exciting ride on an elephant on the broad aisle. Surajpol, is the main entrance which leads to Jaleb Chowk, the main courtyard.There are stair here to climb to the palace From there one has to climb up the stairs to reach the palace.

The Amber fort also houses

  -   Kali Temple known as Shila Devi Temple, which has huge silver lions and silver doors on a raised platform. You will find here an amazing image of Ganesha on the doorway carved from a single piece of coral!
  -   Then there is the Diwan-I-Aam or Hall of Public Audiences , Diwan-e-Khas or the "Hall of Private Audience" ,
  -   Sukh Niwas, or the Residence of Pleasure, here natural air-conditioning was provided ,where a cool wind blew across channels of water. Find here the private chambers of the queens with windows having interlaced screens so that the ladies could watch the proceedings of the royal court in privacy.
  -   There is also the Jai Mandir or the "Temple of Vicotry", you will find here the Sheesh Mahal, the "Hall of Mirrors". Here it is said that if you light a matchstick entire hall is illuminated with the thousands of reflections.

Amer Fort, one of the most important Rajasthan forts is surely a place not to be missed when you arrive here at Rajasthan.
